Two Swedish journalists arrested and detained in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian army has arrested two Swedish journalists in the region of Ogaden, according to Swedish media. The journalists were arrested during an armoured operation against rebels in the Ogaden region.
The two arrested men are a freelance journalist and a photographer who would report from the field. They travelled with guerrillas in the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONFL) to find out if the refugees' stories about the regime’s abuses in the Ogaden area are true.


Ethiopian government said on Sunday night that the men had been arrested. The Ethiopian army cracked down on guerrillas and killed fifteen rebels. The Swedes are reported to be slightly injured in the clashes. According to Swedish television, Sweden had promised to be hear from every third day but it was not possible to contact them since 27 June.
