A shocking rise in child poverty in Denmark mocking the value to the Danish Scandinavian welfare model

Tuesday, 28 June 2011
The number of poor children in Denmark increased between 2002 and 2009 by 51 percent, according to an analysis from the Danish working-class Labour Council (AE). This means that there are currently around 65,000 children in Denmark who grow up in poverty.
A series of reductions in the premiums is one of the reasons, according to EA's chief analyst Jonas Schytz Juul.

AE uses the OECD definition of poverty where the limit lies at those who earn less than 50 percent of median income.

Just last week we reported that the Danish Dollar millionaires were on the record rise at a time when the economy is also limping. This means an economy that tries to present itself as an egalitarian and perfect Scandinavian welfare model, those who are supposed to be protected are instead pushed into poverty.
