Dornier Plane Sent to Mediterranean for Border Surveillance Duty

Monday, 25 April 2011
A Dornier plane has today been sent from Finland to the south coast of Italy following a request from the European Agency Frontex for increased resources from member states.
Frontex, which tackles issues relating to border security, has issued its call for resources in an attempt to curb the sharp rise in illegal immigration figures over recent months. The Dornier plane has been sent to the region and will take part in border surveillance operations there for at least the next month.
The Dornier will make a second trip to the region, this time to the south coast of Spain, in the autumn. This is in line with the original plans for 2011.
