Swedish Minister happy about Swedish global IT leadership

Wednesday, 13 April 2011
For the second consecutive year in a roll, Sweden has been ranks number one of the most competitive digital economy on the world.  Behind the rankings which involved some 138 countries, is the World Economic Forum.

The Swedish officials are happy about this development. The fact is that here in Sweden digitalisation is a big deal and this is something that requires lots of money, time, testing, trials and success. It has taken Sweden some time and now they are here and as the world recognises this, it is something that is warm at heart.

The factors responsible for Sweden success is mainly the high propensity to use and apply new technologies, a very high proportion of the population using the Internet as well as good electronic infrastructure.

The position reaffirms the image of Sweden as a leading IT nation. But even if “we are at the top, we still want to be better, “said Swedish IT and Regional Minister Anna-Karin Hatt.

“My objective is for Sweden to be the world's most successful digital society. To achieve this and to maintain that position requires a constant change and development by all players. For the government is currently focusing on developing the national IT strategy, a Digital Agenda for Sweden. Work is currently underway and will be presented this fall,” said the minister.
