Monday, 14 November 2011
The Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik Behring does not want to be photographed during the public hearing today. Norwegian law requires that he agrees to be photographed but he is against that. The Norwegian prosecutors have demanded that Breivik is remanded in custody at least for 12 weeks.

It is the first time, the media, relatives and the public have been permitted to be present at the remand hearing. The remand hearing would initially have been open for photographers and TV cameras, but just before Breivik arrived they had have to leave the court room. Breivik was wearing a dark suit, white shirt and light blue cravat Around 170 journalists and photographers accompanied the hearing parade.

Since last night, a queue had formed outside the courthouse in Oslo with people who want to see the proceedings came to get access. According to the Norwegian broadcaster, NRK most want to see how Breivik justify his mass murdering actions.

Breivik has admitted that he killed 77 people on the island of Utya and the bombing in the heart of Oslo on 22 July. He may be sentenced to more than 21 years in prison. The police were hoping earlier that Breivik be heard via video link from prison because it would facilitate the security arrangements at the courthouse.

But that change as Norway's Supreme Court decided on Friday that Breivik may participate in the open court proceedings since he has been isolated for 16 weeks. The trial of Breivik will probably begin in April.
