Stockholm: World 25th most economically powerful city.

Saturday, 17 September 2011
Stockholm has emerged as the 25th most powerful city which the world economic centres are compared in terms of their powers. In fact Stockholm is the leader in the Nordic region – stronger than Copenhagen, Helsinki and Oslo in terms of economic power.

This is the fall out from the US magazine, The Atlantic City’s ranking of world cities that matter in terms of their economic power.

Cities where ranked based on what leading researchers such as Michael Porter said that “There is no one U.S. economy but a collection of local economies.”  Thus criteria for getting n the list has to do with are three made factors such as: economic, financial and innovative strength. As the most powerful city in the world goes to Tokyo with New York and London closely follow each other on the podium.

Instead of comparing nations and their gross domestic product, great cities around the world compared in terms of gross regional product. It says that Tokyo and New York are in a class of their own, with GDP of over $1 trillion each. Third-placed London's GDP was less than half, $452 billion while the figure for Stockholm was $49 billion.

Stockholm though ranked 25th overall, when it comes to innovation it stood out to 18 on the list.
Most economically powerful cities are clustered in the United States - four of them. But it should be noted that the figures used by The Atlantic city is that from 2005, the latest year with comparable data worldwide could be available. Canada and China each have three cities with the power list. Of the 25 cities on the list are six European. Remarkably, none of these are from Germany which has Europe’s biggest economy.
