Many refugees in Denmark, some 370 refugees and immigrants chose last year to voluntarily return home, against only 138 in 2009.
Last year, 2010, financial support for aliens who voluntarily want to return home, increased fourfold from SEK30, 000.
The more the amount of money on offer, the better the opportunities to return and create a life at home has become, therefore more immigrants and refugees say yes to the offer from the Danish government according to the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten.
370 foreigners made up of 253 refugees and 117 immigrants - took advantage in 2010 of the so-called repatriation funds compared to 138 last year. 96 of the 370 residents who voluntarily returned home last year were returning more to Bosnia and Herzegovina, while 88 have gone back to Iraq and 37 to Turkey.
It is very simple. More money gives a greater economic security and resources for people who want to go home, to realize their plans according to the government authorities whom the paper spoke with.
They add that they may, for example, open a business or to live a dignified life after retirement without having to be worried about how they’ll cope or afford treatment if they fall ill, according to the Secretary General of the Danish Refugee Council Andreas Kamm.
Beyond that, the amount was paid for those volunteering to go home last year was increased, and the age limit for obtaining a pension-like performance payment was lowered from 60 to 55 years.
