More Swedes died last year than the year before

Saturday, 30 July 2011
More Swedes died in 2010 compared to the previous year and there were more women than men, which is unusual.

Figures from the Swedish welfare Board which the Swedish daily, Svenska Dagbladet looked into showed the phenomenon.

In total, about 90,519 people died, an increase of 0.4 percent compared to 2009.
The most common cause of death was cardiovascular disease, closely followed by cancers - prostate cancer among men and among women breast cancer.
Since 1987, the number who died in general declined.
