Large quantities of dead herring have been discovered on a beach near Tromso in northern Norway.
The amount is estimated at 20 000 tonnes. Neither the locals or fish scientists say they have experienced something similar.
On the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research says that there is no obvious explanation for fish death. A suggestion is that they might have been driven up against the banks by a predator (s) and caught by the tide. Another reason could be the sharp storm that ravaged the Christmas season or any kind of illness.
