Handouts in Sweden have become less important to families as poverty increase

Wednesday, 29 June 2011
The myth that Sweden was a welfare heaven had dies long ago despite the country still keeping the title as a lavish welfare paradise.

For example, a recent study has shown that housing benefits, parental allowances and other forms of handouts have been less significant for families with children in recent years till today.
That contributions represent a smaller proportion of disposable income and is most noticeable among single parents, according to the Swedish national social insurance Fund,  Frskringskassan.

One explanation is that the benefits have not increased as much as expected by household's cost of living.
At the same time the Authority's investigations show that the proportion of households with low living standards is increasing, particularly among single parents.
