Finnish unemployment falling but not among the young
Tuesday, 21 February 2012
Finnish unemployment continues to fall as the unemployment rate in January was 7.8 percent, official data show.
A year earlier, the unemployment rate was up to 8.2 percent. Unemployment rose temporarily in 2009-2010, but in the long-term unemployment has fallen steadily since the peak in 1994, when it amounted to nearly 20 percent.
However, youth unemployment remains high. In January, 20.4 percent of 15-24 year olds were unemployed. It was 1.3 percentage points more than a year earlier.
