Finland trains Arab spring states police

Tuesday, 13 December 2011
Arab spring countries Tunisia and Egypt are looking to Finland for police training following a similar initiative with Palestinian law enforcement officials this autumn.

The details of the training have yet to be hammered out. But Tunisia's interior minister is arriving in Finland next February to discuss the initiative reports Finnish media sources.

In addition to basic police work, Tunisia is interested in training related to crowd control and rescue operations, according to Finland's Interior Ministry.

The Police College says it has the manpower to provide training for the new regimes. Interior Minister Päivi Räsänen also says she likes the idea as long as training foreign law enforcement officials does not strain domestic police resources report Yle.
