Danish F-16-bomber aircraft knock down radar stations

Thursday, 21 April 2011
The Danish F-16-fighters have had three missions in Libya. In the last day they knocked down a radar stations, tanks and a storage area south of Tripoli, according to tactical Air Command.

At the three asignments, the fighter jets threw precision bombs against radar stations and tanks south of Misrata and against a depot area south of Tripoli.

The Danish crew based in Sigonella base in Italy, which is where they have been stationed since the operation began in Libya, has been superseded by a second team.

The Danish fighter jets have now conducted a total of 113 missions within their assignment over Libya. In the 112th they carried out air-to-ground missions, while one was an air-to-air mission.

The aircraft has a total of 239 bombs thrown against Libyan targets. Nato, on behalf of the UN must maintain a ban against Libya attempt to fly, warns civilians in Misrata to stay away from Gaddafi's forces, when the NATO warplanes dishes out attacks.

“Our pilots are doing what they can to avoid hitting civilians. Therefore it's important that civilians stay away from Gaddafi's forces,” said General Charles Bouchard.
Fighting in Misrata has cost many civilian lives, but there is no overall statement related to that. Residents of the city said that at least 200 have been killed there so far,  but the figure may well be twice as big.
