Danish Border controls forge ahead and will be in place next week

Saturday, 18 June 2011
Despite intense criticism, the Danes are determined to implement border controls next week as planned. This follows the June 24 the agreement between the Danish government and immigration sensitive party the Danish People’s party.

Therefore from next week, there is expected to be increased border control at the Danish / German border - more that before.  In a recent parliamentary debate, for the second time the left-wing parties fought to no avail to engineer a proposal to abandon the agreement on additional border.

The Germans are not happy about this Danish move and have done all they can to tell the Danes to stop their obsession with too much control of foreigners but nothing is shaking the Danes off this move. The control will be right here and the legal document for the increased border control will means that the plans can be initiated.

The cost of setting up the control is going to be high for a Danish economy struggling with a double deep recession already. But customs buildings alone will cost Dkr47 million and will be set up the earliest in 2012.

A Danish people party’s official told radio Denmark that “It is clear that border controls will only be really effective when the customs officers have buildings with all their equipment, including equipment to be used to scan license plates.”
