Increased security around the Swedish PM as terror threats in Norway a cause for concern

Wednesday, 20 June 2012
Terrorist activity in Norway and the growing wrangling by far right activities means that the Swedish government has to do something it has not traditionally been used to – increase security around the prime minister.

The bombardment carried out by Norwegian far right terrorist, Anders Breivik in Norway continues to influence the Swedish government’s security decision. As the political parties start having their summer political retreats, care has to be taken for the safety of the premier.

In consultation with the security police and city government, there has the decision taken to increase security around Prime Minister’s Residence in Sagerska palatset and parts of Rosenbad, Metro.

Cars must be prevented to get around on Strömgatan with physical barriers, known as bollards, at a cost of skr18.6 million. The monitoring system will cost an additional Skr3 million.

This comes at a time when the Swedish far right, Sweden democrats saw one of its members   wrote a worrying statement about the killing at Utoya, Norway. The post was published by Patrik Ohlsson, Sweden Democrats’ member from Ängelholms City Council, on the site Avpixlat, which he praised Brevik and his action sin Utoya. He posits that such action should be welcome to be taken against the youth wing of the Social Democrats.
