Norway closes embassy in Iran after the attack on British embassy

After the attack on the British embassy in Tehran, Norway has chosen to close its embassy in the Iranian capital.

“The attack on the British embassy in Tehran today is totally unacceptable. It is the Iranian authorities to protect foreign embassies and their staff,” says the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.


The Norwegian Foreign Ministry has contacted to deployed evacuation of its staff from the embassy in Tehran. They are in good shape and are monitoring the situation closely. The Embassy is closed until further notice.  

Demonstrations closing the Norwegian embassy come after protesters yesterday stormed the British Embassy. According to spokeswoman, Hilde Steinfeld,from the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, the decision was taken late last night. She also said that the diplomatic staffs is staying in Iran, the news agency AP Norway says four to five employees will be stationed in the Iranian capital Tehran.
