Swedish unemployment continues to fall in OctoberTuesday, 22 November 2011
Approximately 345,000 people, or 6.9 percent of the Swedish workforce, were unemployed in October.
That was something more than the 6.8 percent that economists had expected, according to Reuters.
Last year at this time, Swedish unemployment was 7.5 percent. As such it looks like something better is being done to keep the unemployment at this creeping level.
AdvertisementIt is hopped that the unemployment continues to fall but there are renewed fears of that happening give the intense uncertainty in the market today. Even Statistics Sweden feels that in the short term, the trend will remain at a weakly downward level.
The number of employed persons aged 15-74 amounted to 4 635 000 in October 2011. This is an increase of 65 000 compared to the same period of last year. The number of unemployed persons was 345 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 6.9 percent. The number of hours worked amounted to 159.8 million per week. Seasonally adjusted data shows a continued increase in employment and a slight decrease in unemployment
