Swedish Car sales continue to impress reflecting the economy

In May 30 853 new passenger cars were registered in Sweden, according to latest reports which also show an increase of 23.4 percent from the same month last year. Saab sees its sales slumps as the company’s negative PR chased always potential enthusiastic customer.


Bil Sweden which analyses and publish the figure point out that so far this year 129 557 new cars were registered, making it an increase of 18.0 percent over the corresponding period last year.

The problem for Saab Automobile is clearly visible in the statistics. Registration of new Saab cars during the periods of May was 290, down 58.6 percent compared with 2010. Despite the collapse of May, total registrations since the beginning of the year increased by 24.1 percent to 2916.

For Volvo Cars, new car registrations rose in May by 45.6 percent to 5299. This gives a total of 24 080 registrations so far this year, an increase of 21.9 percent.

High interest among passenger cars was Volvo V70 II with 8659 registrations so far this year, compared with 10 806 during the corresponding period last year. Second is the VW Golf 5821 against 5103 and third stood VW Passat with 5754 against 5228 similar period last year.

Sales of trucks in May was the second highest since records began 82 years ago. During the month were newly registered 5381 vehicles, an increase of 41.9 percent. Registrations of heavy trucks over 16 tons, rose by 35.3 percent to 377.
