The Swedish government’s drive to liberalise resources for the market continue with news on Sunday that a few more ports on the Swedish island of Gotland could be put the market for sale.
Example of the ports being observed to fit that profile are the ports in Vndhurg in Hamra and Katthammarsvik in stergarn, reports radio Sweden.

The idea is that taxpayers will not be able to handle the maintenance costs of the ports as the rural areas are being developed said the radio station.

In-depth comprehensive plan for Storsudret is currently out for consultation and proposals to ease the shore protection and build homes around the harbour in Vndburg.

“When it comes to Katthammarsvik we have not come quite as far but it could be an opportunity to build homes there as well. It has also been mentioned as a parking for campers," said Anders Lindholm an exploitation strategist at Region of Gotland to radio Sweden who has already received several telephone calls from entrepreneurs who wanted to hear about the projects and developments.

There is a book value of Skr2.4 million for the port at Vndburg “but it is clear that there can be about much greater offer if it is possible to build there, "said Anders Lindholm.

Also the port of Burgsvik has been identified as suitable for sale, and there the Harbour Association has expressed an interest if a sale arises. Already there has been a decision for Kapellshamn port to be sold.
