Rise in Swedish traffic to New York this summer

The record weak dollar against the Swedish Krona is attracting many Swedes to New York this summer.
Observations show that the three summer months from June to August, the number of booked trips to New York has increased by 91 percent over the same period last year, according to booking statistics from the travelling agency Ticket.
Other popular destination this summer includes London, where bookings increased 50 percent, and Barcelona where it rose by 32 percent since last year.


In related development, the number of passengers flying from Skelleftea Airport grew by 20 percent in May compared to same month last year.

International traffic is what has increased most, by 41 percent, after Ryanair and Charter Company, Detur established their presence there.

A total of some 28 451 persons has flown from Skelleftea Airport in May,  4663 more than the same period in 2010, according to a press release.

Skellefte� Airport is located at about 17 km from Skellefte�, V�sterbotten, Sweden. Skellefte� airport is north Sweden's (Norrland) 5th biggest airport and the 14th biggest airport in Sweden. The airport dealt with about 250,000 passengers in 2005. The local municipality has taken over the ownership of this airport from state-owned LFV
