Poor year end for the Swedish motor sector but was one of the best in yearsMonday, 02 January 2012
As the year was coming to an end, the Swedish motor sector which started with a bang also gradually came to a slow pace.
In December 25 219 new passenger cars were registered, according to data from the industry’s organization, Bil Sweden which make and keep the data. That presented a decrease of 15.3 percent from the same month the year before.
AdvertisementAll together in 2011, 304,801 new vehicles were registered in Sweden, making it an increase of 5.2 percent compared to 2010.
Best-selling was Volvo V70II with 22,207 registrations in 2011, compared to 29,106 the years before. Second on the top list was the VW Passat with 16,162 registrations as against 12,145 same months a year before. Third place came the Germans again with VW Golf selling 12,590 compared to 12,825 same period a year ago. See table
Bil Sweden forecast for 2012 is that some 270,000 new passenger cars will be sold in Sweden.
CEO of Bil Sweden, Bertil Molden, think that the registration numbers are encouraging, given the economic turmoil and the weakening economy. For trucks 2011 was a record year and for passenger cars it was the sixth best year so far.
"During the latter part of the year, we have seen a slowdown in orders signed on new cars as a result of increased concern in the labour market with more notice, "writes Molden in a statement.
