More and more people in Sweden want to become engineers

Friday, 18 November 2011
The training of civil engineering is by far the most sought after of all university disciplines this year as various indications show that the demand for the discipline will explode in Sweden in the coming years.

Prior to this fall semester, the first choice for people seeing further studies in the sector was  10,000 people. The next most popular was nursing programs, according to Statistics Sweden and the National Agency for education.

Demand for Masters Degree in the education has increased in popularity in recent years, which may explain why, among the larger institutions there has been increasing pressure for places. In schools such as Chalmers has seen the most entry-level applicants per admitted last fall.
Sweden has been in the past years complained of lack of enough engineers to meet growing demand. This demand therefore reflects labour market indications to train more people into areas of need.
