“Make the Greek debt burden manageable”: Swedish Finance Minister, Borg

Thursday, 21 July 2011
In a statement to news agency TT, the Swedish Finance Minister, Anders Borg said that it is important that EU leaders will make the debt burden manageable for Greece.

“It's very crucial that we get clear and comprehensive conclusions that reduce the uncertainty that we now have. They must contain two components, the Greeks are very clear that they will continue with their cleanup work, and also that the euro countries shows that they have an ability to reduce uncertainty,” says Borg said.

According to Anders Borg, there are both advantages and disadvantages of Sweden as a non-euro country not to participate in the process which the EU countries are trying to make important decisions about the future of Europe.

“It is clear that when there has been so much uncertainty and so much trouble in the euro area, it has not been a detriment to remain outside. It is always good for Sweden to sit on the table with them. But the euro countries will pay a high price for these systems that have not worked well,” says Borg.
