Since last week the Danish authorities has cleared the Danish cucumbers of suspicion of containing the deadly EHEC infection. The aim was to instill confidence in the purchase and consumption of the Danish cucumber. But the effect is that sales have fallen like a piece of rock in a river.
“It is dangerous to throw out an apprehension when one does not know the source. Our producers have become embroiled in a huge crisis, because they could not get their cucumbers sold, "said Mogens Christensen of Danish Gartneri, growers' trade association in Denmark.
Results are expected from samples taken at a farm, which was indicated as the source of infection in the German Lower Saxony.
