The aesthetic plastic surgery is a growing market, particularly in Sweden, where 25 000 procedures are performed each year. On Saturday, in international conference of plastic surgeons was held in Stockholm in which the specialists met to take stock of their activities

“We see a huge trend for growth in this sector, both surgical and non surgical procedures, such as injections and things like that, "said Per Hedn, plastic surgeon who is organizing the meeting to radio Sweden.

Plastic surgery interventions, cosmetic surgery generates sales of SEK 600 million each year in Sweden. But this is a low estimate because it is an industry that is growing by an estimated 15 percent per year. Moreover, not the non-surgical interventions are being included.

Advetisement

The most common form of surgical procedure is breast augmentation, but what which comes closest are less invasive procedures such as smoothing wrinkles and to fill up lips.

Per Hedn has worked as a plastic surgeon for many years and he has noticed a change in attitude to the aesthetic plastic surgery environment.
“Acceptance has really grown and people see it as something which is normal to do just like buying clothes and jewelry and makeup and so on.”

He adds that it is absolutely, incredibly important that this type of treatment is done properly.
That it does not require any training to perform such surgery beauty is an issue that has been much discussed. Per Heden see it as a problem for the industry.

“It's a very big problem. This growth has been so great, so authorities are seeking to introduce legislation. Today it is easier to open a clinic to do little things like this, than to start a coffee shop and it's pretty weird,” he said.
