Ikea breaks record at home and wants more aggressive expansion and employment

Thursday, 29 September 2011
Despite the economic slowdown furniture chain, Ikea, has hit a new record at home and is expecting to carry out hiring as it also plans more expansion in Sweden.

Ikea plans to open four new stores in Sweden and need to do extensive recruitment to cope with expansion
Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri reports that the recently ended fiscal year saw the company reporting sales in Sweden of Skr13.4 billion in its 17 Swedish department store. This is 2 percent higher than the previous record level which was last year. The explanation is partly that Ikea has cut its prices by a total of 5 percent last year:
"Even now, when many companies are starting to notice that customers are harder in the wallet, we can continue to grow, "said Sweden Director Peter AgneFjäll to the paper.

Some additional 1000 worker are now being sought by  Ikea over the next few years, including the four new stores to open in Borlange, Uddevalla, Älmhult and Umeå in Sweden

"We see no reason to stop, but continue our Sweden Offensive, "said AgneFjäll .
Ikea has generated multi-billion dollar profits for years but what Ikea's profits, either in Sweden or in all its operation globally is not yet a public issue.
But in the recently completed financial year, Ikea had sales in its 17 existing stores up to Skr13.4 billion, an increase of two percent.
