The turnkey project has been ordered by Empresa Generadora de Electricidad Haina (EGE Haina), the country’s largest power generation company. The value of the order is approximately EUR 150 million, according to a press release.

The planning of the plant is done largely in Vaasa, while the engines are manufactured in Trieste, Italy.

The power plant will consist of twelve Wärtsilä 50DF-engines and associated generators, which are primarily powered by natural gas, and, if necessary, with heavy oil. The plant, which is expected to be put into service in the second half of 2013, will produce electricity for the national grid in the Dominican Republic.
