Volvo wants to take Saab's machinery to ChinaFriday, 24 February 2012
Volvo Cars, was reported recently to have made a concrete offer for the machinery and equipment belonging to Saab Automobile plant in Trollhättan, near Gothenburg. Reports hold that parts of the equipments were destined to be shipped to Volvo Cars' new factories in China, according to Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri,
This culminated with the development in Volvo Cars which it started construction of two new factories in China and where there are plans for a third factory.
"Saab factory in Trollhättan is an extremely modern facility and as an automotive company we ought to be interested in technical and industrial equipment from there, "says Volvo Cars' press officer Per-Ake Froberg told Dagens Industri.
Any comment on details of any success of the concrete bid the paper could not squeeze out him. Because it means that their bid was successful, the conclusion will be that Saab will be stripped up and shipped to China.
The idea of shipping the equipment from Trollhättan to China, albeit in Volvo Cars' secret bidding is not uncontroversial.
"It's challenging to see that equipment and expertise from Saab in Sweden will just have to move to China and this does not come in handy in the Trollhättan region ", says Per Nordberg, CEO of Fourier transform, to Dagens Industri.
Fouriertransform is a state-owned venture capital company which shall, on a commercial basis, strengthen the international competitiveness of the Swedish automotive cluster. The state company is also interested in buying parts of Saab.
Per Nordberg appeal to the administrators to try to find a global business with production at Trollhättan.
