Telia to speed up the deployment its 4G network

Tuesday, 27 September 2011
TeliaSonera has increases the speed of the deployment of its four G-network such that by the end of next year, 663 places in Sweden would have to have access to faster mobile broadband.

“We are increasing the pace to meet customer demand for broadband,” says Ulrika Steg, head of Mobility Services at TeliaSonera, adding that the company is currently increasing the capacity of all mobile networks.

In 2012, Telia based 4 G networks should be in 432 towns and "place" in which the Swedish statistic organisation, statistic Sweden defined as a spot where some least 200 people share the resources.

One reason for the faster expansion than planned is that Telia last spring bought licenses for the frequency band 800 megahertz, which is particularly suitable for mobile broadband in rural areas. Another reason is that more and more Swedes have gained smart phones and surf boards that are worthless without good access to broadband therefore a faster transition to 4G can relieve 3G networks.

According to Telia, the coverage for next year's expansion in many areas is to approach them in the areas where there are 3 G, network. By "places" in this context, Telia Statistics Office's definition is that it is the place where at least 200 people can stay. Ulrika Steg thinks it is better to talk about how many such locations have 4G network other than  to speak of percentage coverage.
