Swedish newspapers circulation continues to fallFriday, 24 February 2012
Newspaper circulation in Sweden continues to decline but free newspaper, Metro in turn, increase its circulation as well as the Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri.
Overall, the decline of newspaper circulation is in the region of 3.6 percent last year, according to figures from Swedish newspaper database or Tidningsstatistik AB (TS).
Aftonbladet, which last year had a dry run of 329 200 copies, this year is not included in the TS- data. Dagens Nyheter, the country’s largest daily newspaper maintained it position in 2011 to be the largest circulation or 292 100 copies per publishing date, a decrease of 2 percent compared with 2010. Even Expressen, GT and Kvällposten (Evening Post) have seen their total circulation fell - by 24 200 units to 262 300.
Business newspaper, Dagens Industri is the newspaper that grew the most during the year. The paper added 1400 more copies in circulation up to 103 100.
Free newspaper Metro also printed more papers. In large cities, Metro has increased its circulation significantly, or almost 55 000 copies.
Among the magazines, it is the big free magazines that increased the most, such as Buffet, Live Life, Ikea Family Live, Coop A taste were those that led the way.
Allers has sustained its position as the largest family magazine with a circulation of 201 800, despite a decline of 8 100 copies. Societal magazines such as Focus and Filters continued to grow by 800 and 5 600 copies. Even the likes of Situation Stockholm attracted more buyers.
