Swedish companies to work in partnership with U.S. Air Force

Wednesday, 04 January 2012
The U.S. Air Force is reported to be getting into a new business partner: the Swedish company Scama.

The company based in the Swedish Mjölby, known as Scama has been around since 1972 and specializes in the development of runways for aircraft. Or rather, designing floating barriers to trap landing aircrafts.

The company already provides the Swedish air force with deployment barrier but may in the near future become a supplier for the U.S. Air Force, according to reports.

But the U.S. Air Force is said to be assessing them. Therefore Scama will apply to the Swedish Armed Forces to have access to a two kilometres long runway that can be used for demonstrations.

This was granted recently by the Defence Export Authority, which says that the Swedish Air Force can benefit from the deal.
"Closer cooperation between Swedish industry and the U.S. military will also have beneficial relationship between Sweden and the United States, which is an important partner," the Defence Export Agency said in decisions, according to reports.
