In April the Swedish government launched a rapid investigation, to find out if the Swedish ships should use armed guards to protect themselves against pirates.
But after its own investigation, the Swedish shipping company Wallenius had started already using hired security personnel, armed with assault rifles, aboard the company's merchant.

The Danish government last year gave green light to its shipping companies to use arm guards to fend itself from Somali pirates.
According to radio Sweden, an internal investigation, state that pirate activities in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean are very serious problems, and describe the intensity as being conducted almost to an industrial scale, is damaging to their trade activities.
