Sweden unveil its fastest trains so far - the SJ3000 today went out for a spinMonday, 06 February 2012
Swedish new fast commuter train, the SJ3000 was this morning exposed to the elements and tested for what it was designed for. It is the high speed SJ3000 which made a maiden drive departing from Sundsvall this morning via Gävle to Stockholm.
The train was scheduled to have been in service since the end of last year but got delayed for obvious reasons. SJ3000 is expected to cope with peak speed of 200 kilometres per hour and is expected to link more towns and withstand some of the effects of elements that habitually grounded the X2000.
No trains in Sweden so far can go faster than this one so far. It is also to be places in the most challenging route - from Stockholm to the north where the SJ3000 will begin running.
The question is how the new fast train will pass the Swedish grim winter test. SJ CEO Jan Forsberg said in the press briefing of the new high speed rail to Swedish television that it’ll will go well.
According to him, the train has the characteristic Regina manufactured by Bombardier. Regina has operated in Sweden for over ten years all the experience of those years has been used to build and improve current technology.
“If you look at these trains, they are almost completely smooth. This means that any system that the train is well protected. And Bombardier has almost given us a guarantee that these trains can handle even the roughest imagined winter conditions such as that we had the last two years,” said Jan Forsberg.
Reports hold that the test drive of the SJ3000went on smoothly on its premiere today although critics and cynic still feel that SJ took a pretty big risk when they chose to place the launch on a cold day like this, but so far it's working.
Others argue that if the true nature of the trains is to be known it is vital that they run on the rough weather now so that is there are ant weaknesses, they are corrected before the next winter.
