Suspected financial misappropriation in communal energy company, Gothenburg Energy

A suspected misappropriation has erupted in Göteborg Energi in Gothenburg and the police has bee reportedly called in, reports Swedish daily, Goteborg Posten.

In what is reported as “suspected irregularities in two different projects within the municipal company”, CEO, Lotta Brändström, may have been duped of several million in one project and half a million in another one.

The cheating of many millions in two different projects might have involved both internal employees and suppliers alike and this could be treated as fraud.

During the autumn, Gothenburg Energy conducted a series of internal audits within the company. In some projects that had been undertaken by the company's CEO Lotta Brändström, it was found that there were deficiencies.

In at least two cases, have been serious evidence of irregularities identified to be handed over to the police for investigation.

“In December and January, we filed two police reports involving things not looking good,” says Lotta Brändström adding that “We are in an intensive digging in some parts. I think we will see more things that do not seem to have gone wrong,” said Brändström to Göteborgs-Posten
Gothenburg is an area in Sweden that is disturbing characterise by problems relating to misappropriation, embezzlement and corruption.
