Volvo Cars is looking for engineers and they are in search for both high and low level engineers in Sweden and abroad. And after a turbulent time at Saab, many of its engineers are now looking for work in their competitors instead.

Car manufacturer Volvo is now in an extensive recruitment process. A total of 900 engineers are needed to be engaged in Gothenburg and this year the company is over 500 staff, most of which are required in the product development department.

There is already now a significant interest in which Saab engineers are decamping from Saab's automotive, to other more stable companies such as but it is not exactly clear how many applications Volvo has received from the company.

"We have indications that there are relatively many of the Saab worker seeking services here, "said Volvo's recruitment manager, Erica Wikman.

But according to her Volvo has not carried out any targeted campaign against Saab.
"We definitely can not pick and engineers from Saab. But we are in the area and it is not surprising in any way that they come to us," she said.

In a first round, Volvo needs to recruit 70 engineering services and next week will be another 60 services that are being advertised. Volvo's HR director Bjorn Sllstrm says that it has received 300 qualified applications to date, and he expects to fill the posts before the summer.

But finding the right skills in the long run would not be easy.
"The telemetric-side is hard to get engineers because they work with information systems and therefore are most difficult because the demand in other industries is also high too," he said.

The company is also forced to go abroad to meet its recruitment goals.
"It's a tough challenge and we have few candidates for posts with key skills. With the help of Manpower, we look outside of Sweden and customers are primarily in eastern and southern European countries," says Eric Wikman.
