Saab automobile to finish building what is likely its very last car this weekWednesday, 22 February 2012
This week, there will be the completion of what could be described as the last Saab cars. These are about 47 convertibles, which were almost finished and then interrupted as Saab went into bankruptcy.
Now the cars are made as a business requirement so as to get some money into the bankruptcy estate. In a workshop or the shop floor at Saab factory in Trolhättan there is the completion of the building of what could be the very last Saab cars.
Since the bankruptcy management started oeparation, Saab has been unable to finish the cars which were already commissioned by dealer and others. 47 convertibles are to be completed and ready.
Among those being completed are also few that will be left not likely to be completed because the parts for those ones could not be supplied.
“It's a little special, to screw together the last ones,” said a worker who is one of those left to complete the work.
The convertible would cost something in the region of about Skr350,000 and Skr600,000 and many have already been ordered in advance. The money will go to the estate and to enhance its operations such as to pay for lawyers and also maintain the plant in anticipation of someone buying all or part of the estate, something which is also very expensive.
The question after this is whether more cars will be rolling out of Trollhattan again thereafter.
