More than 100 new employees are to be hired at Volvo Cars Corporation in Olofstrm before summer. And half of those are reported to be women. What a wonderful gesture!

The company's goal is that half of the new staff will be female, like the 200 summer workers who have recently been recruited, given that the company has been sleep working to  recruiting only men before and woke up to realise that ‘oh, women too can work.’

It is not clear whether the goal is to seek efficiency or just a PR stunt. To what extent does the company thinks that the areas where they need skills would be provided by the women and why has the company failed in the past to accept women applicants who are qualified just because of their gender. Does the company acknowledge that there are women who are skilled and have not been hired in the past? Why are they upbeat about this move to hire more women?
For us this is just a public relation stunt carried out by Volvocar and it just go to show aspects of hypocrisy imbedded in such so-called great Swedish car maker. Otherwise why do you announce that you want to reserve some 100 position only to women?
