According to Finnish national broadcaster, YLE , they have information that redundancy notices have already been given out at Salo plant of the Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia.

The plant’s shop steward Aimo Leskel says that the notices have not in fact been handed out, but rather some managers have orally informed certain employees of the current situation.
Leskel says that the total number of the people to be shed from product development at Salo is not yet known and the situation is very fluid. The first advance notices will be handed out only at the end of August.

“No redundancy notices have been given out—these have only been verbal statements from managers about the situation at the moment,” says senior staff shop steward Leskel.
Before Midsummer, Nokia announced its plans to cut 1,400 employees by the end of next year.

The cuts will concern only product development, and not the production unit at the Salo plant. Some 2,000 people are working in product development at the site.
“The situation changes daily. Some tasks end during a given period, and at the same time a new organisation is being built, which has open positions and employs people,” Leskel says.
According to Nokia, the employees concerned in the ongoing consultative talks will be informed whether or not their jobs are becoming redundant by the beginning of July.
“Managers will tell people whether their jobs will continue and for how long,” Leskel says. “Actual cuts will happen at the beginning of January at the earliest.”
