New iPad could pass Sweden by as 4g compatibility in Sweden could be lackingFriday, 09 March 2012
Apple's new version of the popular iPad can not cope with the 4g system in Sweden. It is unwelcome news for the 4G operators in the country as such Telia and other operators are now in discussions with Apple for the Swedish launch.
One of the major innovations of the launch of the iPad 3 is that it can handle 4g system and that users are thus able to surf 10 times faster than the previous version, which had only 3g. But according to the technical specifications using the new " iPad’s" bandwidth show that it makes it hard for it to work on the 4G network in Sweden. Prior to the Swedish launch, it is uncertain what will happen with the ability to its ability to surf super fast.
"We would like to be notified as soon as possible about what it is all about. But we must await information from Apple,” said Charlotte Zuger, Communications Manager for Telia's mobile services.
According to information online, Apple confirmed that it has does not arise with a 4G version outside North America. Apple says that the new iPad supports fast cellular networks around the world — up to what it describe as 4G LTE.* On a 4G network, you can download content, stream video, and browse the web at amazing speeds.
But it adds that if you’re in a location without a 4G LTE network, you’ll still get access to fast 3G networks including HSPA, HSPA+, and DC-HSDPA.
The news that iPad can not handle 4g should come as a disappointment to the Swedish 4G network operators - Telia, Tele2 and Telenor. The iPad could be a way for operators to attract customers over to the 4G networks.
Telia has several financial products that support 4G network. In addition to modems and routers also an e-book reader and mobile phone from Samsung.
"We would like to see more 4G products on the market, "said Charlotte Zuger.
