Low demand for Saab 9-4X begs the question whether it is the salvation dreamt of

The first samples of Saab’s U.S. crossover are now available at retailers. But only 100 are pre-ordered. The fear is that this might turnout to be the saviour Saab had hopped to turn it’s harden situation around.

Last week, the first contingents of Saab crossover 9-4Xs were delivered for sale in the USA from Saab's Mexico production line. According to trade journal Automotive News, so far, of the 199 Saab dealers in the United States only about some 100 orders from customer have been received, suggesting that it might not be the salvation for Saab as many had hoped.

Saab 9-4X is a cloned cousin of the Cadillac SRX, which had sold 3951 cars in June and has on the whole sold 26,000 cars so far this year in the United States.

Despite all this, it is far too early to draw any conclusions about how the Saab cross over cars will perform but as sceptical as people are, there are fears that the car might not perform well in the market.

The people at Saab have talked a lot expectantly about the new crossover.  The basic price of a 9-4X in the United States, according to Automotive News, $34,205, with today's exchange rate is approximately Skr212 000,  while a four-wheel Aero is sold for $302,000.

Saab hopes to export the 9-4X to Europe and get additional volumes of sales were crushed by General Motors when it sold the company but the new Saab owners dong want to drop its news found best diesel engine.
Expectations are to watch and see how the car will perform and is if the company itself will resume production as planned.
