Finnish wood processor, Ahlstrom to lay off 163 workers
Tuesday, 18 October 2011
The wood-processing company Ahlstrom is to stop production of glass fibre and glass fibre mats at its Karhula factory in Kotka in south-east Finland at the end of this year. As a consequence, the glass fibre business will employ 163 fewer people from October.

Glass fibre tissue production at Karhula will continue, and around 100 workers will remain at the factory. Lay-off talks are continuing at the company’s Mikkeli plant in eastern Finland.
Ahlstrom says the changes will add 15 million euros a year to its operating profits from 2012. The company says it is offering re-training and possibly other posts within the company.
