Finally more engineers have decided to leave the end-of-the-road Saab automobile to Volvocars
Wednesday, 26 October 2011
Why should highly sought after engineers should plead too much loyalty to a company that give them persistent uncertainty when next door they are highly sought after. This is that tale to limping Saab automobile and Volvocar Corporation in Sweden

As Volvo Cars made it clear that it was seeking to recruit more engineers, at first Saab engineers remind loyal to Saab hoping that their future in the company would be made clearer within a short while.  But as the uncertainty in Saab became more precarious and as Volvo might be moving abroad to seek workers, Saab previously loyal engineers have started moving over.

According to radio Sweden in August, the former Saab engineer who decided to talk, indicated that he had crossed over.
“I have always been enthusiastic about it, I worked with and always enjoyed it. The work has always been something I see as something fantastic, pure and simple. It's the feeling you want to try to keep,” says Andreas Hillb who has just crossed to Volvocars from Saab.

“Then it's just sad when you come to the conclusion that one must move around to be able to continue with something that you really are interested in doing”

“It's a decision that has emerged after a long time of pondering. The decision to resign was rationally easy to take, however emotionally it was difficult,” he said to radio Sweden.

Despite the crisis at Saab in Trollhättan, the workers there are very loyal and turn over in the staff is still low. However, since last summer more engineers have resigned that usual.

Reports hold that about 50 to 60 people which is 15 percent Saab engineers from the association of Graduate engineers have chosen to conclude this year and to leave the company

“It is slightly higher than normal, says Per Bränneby, President of the association of Swedish Graduate engineers.
Normally it was expected to be between 5 and 10 percent, but now it's very cyclical according to them.
However, fewer of the shop floor car builders have resigned. That is, more of the engineers tend to stops at Saab because there is a good labour market for them. Volvo Cars has hired about 25 engineers from Saab so far this year - and it may be more in the coming months.

“There's a very high level of expertise - an acknowledged high level of expertise – in the poll of Saab's technicians and engineers. Of course, they are interested also for Volvo Cars,” said Per-Ake Froberg, press manager at Volvo Cars to radio Sweden.
