Smaller explosions occurred in three of the Ikea stores in the Netherlands, Belgium and France yesterday. Nobody was seriously injured but two employees are reported to have had ear pain after the explosions.

The first blast occurred at an IKEA store in Ghent, Belgium. The explosive charge was triggered by an alarm clock, hidden in a milk carton. Nevertheless, despite the explosive charge there was loud sound but the explosion itself is reported to have been very weak.
The same type of explosive device was also used in the Netherlands and in France. Police in the three countries are investigating the incidents but yet there is no trace, but it is believed that the same person or group are behind the explosions.

No threats had been made before the explosion against the company either in the world or in Sweden as such no motive is being tied to it. "We have not received any threats," said the group's press officer Charlotte Lindgren to Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter.

The department stores were evacuated after the explosive attacks and the police searched the buildings. According Ylva Magnusson, press officer at Ikea Sweden, it is still safe to shop at Ikea stores.

“Our assessment is that there is no threat and that we need not take additional action regarding this,” he adds

Ikea has previously been subjected to attacks and threats in the past but nothing is associated with the current event.
In March 2009, there was a bomb threat at IKEA department store in Amsterdam, but no such thing has been made against the department stores in France Lomme near Lille, Ghent, Belgium or Dutch Eindhoven.
